SOMETHINGWONDERFUL

“Have you ever had a dream, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream, Neo? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world? “

Morpheus The Matrix 1999

The ‘SOMETHINGWONDERFUL’ series of work  or  ‘wabbits’ as they have been commonly referred too, are a series of screen prints/drawings. The series began in 2013 as a side project originally developed from the painting ‘Nothing is certain everything is possible’. Due to the demand for prints of the painting a new project evolved in which a small original postcard drawing was produced and given away via social media platforms every Friday night for a year in 2014. These postcards (some examples shown) were posted all over the world with only one request for the new owners, to photograph and display the drawing postcard on their social media platforms. This proved to be a hugely successful project during 2014.Due to demand and feedback on the postcards the project evolved again into a series of screen prints and drawings in 2015.

The content of the screen prints/drawings have three visual elements that together form a conceptual meaning or message. The three elements are; 1- A sphere containing binary code saying ‘everything out there is in here’, 2- Albrecht Durer’s hare from 1503 which is re-appropriated as a symbol of a white rabbit from popular culture (meaning a change of reality, a metaphysical metaphor for ‘waking up’ as seen in Alice in wonderland and the matrix etc), 3- a quotation ‘something wonderful’ taken from the movie ‘2010: The Year We Make Contact’. The meaning or message in the work is consciously ‘waking up’, seeing the truth in an age of overload and complexity …follow the white rabbit…
